Finasteride (Dutasteride)is the first in a new class of hair loss treatments called “mini-propecia”, which work by blocking the production of a hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT).
“Finasteride (Dutasteride) is an effective treatment for hair loss in men with male pattern baldness,” said, founder and chief executive of the American Hair Loss Association (AHA). “While hair loss is the most common cause of morbidity and mortality, finasteride can help reverse male pattern baldness in men by increasing hair growth and reducing scalp irritation.”
The new class of hair loss treatments, known as mini-propecia, is designed to improve the ability of men to lose hair when their hair follicles are shrunk by the action of DHT. Dutasteride and minoxidil are FDA-approved drugs used to treat hair loss in men. Both drugs inhibit DHT production in the scalp, and their effectiveness is superior to that of finasteride. “This class of medications, which are available as brand names, is more effective than minoxidil, which has fewer side effects,” said Dr. David Nissen, clinical professor of urology at the University of Michigan, who is a co-director of the AHA’s hair loss and hair growth programs.
“Because finasteride is a newer drug, it may not be a good treatment option for men with male pattern baldness,” Nissen added. “This new class of hair loss treatments has a great potential to help men with hair loss who are otherwise at risk.”

The Propecia and the Women's Health Initiative (CHII) are a major study of the hair growth drug finasteride, which is approved for hair loss in men but not in women. The study is being conducted at the CVS pharmacy chain at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. The study was sponsored by CVS and will take place at 6:00 a.m. in the summer.
The study, which was led by a group of women, will examine the effects of finasteride on men and women.
The study will be published in the journalWomen’s Health Initiative, and is being conducted by the CVS pharmacy chain of the University of Connecticut. It was funded by CVS.
The researchers said the women's health study was a major breakthrough in the treatment of female sexual dysfunction. They were also excited about the new approach to treatment because of the increased potential of finasteride in the treatment of hair loss.
The study will involve participants who have had at least five years of clinical hair loss treatment and who are living with a hair transplant.
A hair transplant was intended to treat the thinning and enlargement of the head of hair, which was already on its way to becoming thin and bald.
The study will be conducted by the CVS pharmacy chain. The researchers said the study was important because it will help determine how treatment with finasteride may affect men and women differently.
The study will be conducted in collaboration with the University of Connecticut and the National Institutes of Health.

The results of the study showed that women in the study were able to get and maintain an average of 5% and 1.

How does the hair on your head grow?On average your hair grows about 1 centimetre (half an inch) each month. Hair growsfrom hair follicles, which are located under your skin.
A single scalp hair grows continuously for 2-4 years (growth phase) and then stopsgrowing for 2-4 months (rest phase). After this the hair falls out. In its place a newhealthy hair begins to grow, and the cycle is repeated. The hairs on your scalp arealways in different stages of this cycle so it is normal to lose scalp hair every day.
What is male pattern hair loss?
Male pattern hair loss is a common condition in which men experience thinning of thehair on the scalp, often resulting in a receding hairline and/or balding on the top of thehead. This condition is thought to be caused by a combination of genetic factors and aparticular hormone, DHT (dihydrotestosterone).
DHT causes a decrease in the growth phase and thinning of the hair (see picture). Thisleads to male pattern hair loss. These changes can start to occur in some men in their20s and become more common with age. Once hair loss has occurred over a longperiod of time, the hair may be permanently lost.
